A clear, evidence-based guide designed for midwives and parents who want informed, confident choices from day one.
This comprehensive Vitamin K resource was created by Dr. Dallin Hubbard, MD, PhD, and the team at Direct Care Pediatrics. It breaks down the history, science, and safety of Vitamin K in plain language—covering oral versus injection options, preservative-free choices, and answering families toughest questions. Perfect for midwives & families who want to provide balanced, research-backed education without pressure or judgment.
Yes, while it is not completely "preservative-free", we offer preservative less vitamin k without benzyl alcohol and can order it in for you.
At Direct Care Pediatrics we will evaluate each case and make an informed decision with the parents. Ideally, a baby should get oral or the vitamin k shot if they plan on a circumcision. One study showed that giving Vitamin K at birth reduced post-circumcision bleeding by 82%, preventing bleeding in 1 out of every 9 baby boys. However, we use the plastibell method which has a less risk of bleeding. Many times we can do a circumcision without vitamin K if the child is older than 8 days and is developing properly.
